Monitor exposure to chlorinated pesticides Chlorinated pesticide poisoning is characterized by neurological abnormalities, including general weakness, EEG changes, muscle jerking, and emotional changes. Exposure to chlorinated pesticides at high concentrations may lead to unconsciousness and death.[1] Chlorinated pesticides are employed in both agricultural and domestic environments. Chlorinated pesticides have fallen under governmental regulations due to their persistence in the environment and potential for promoting health hazards. DDD and DDE are both metabolites of DDT, which was initially banned in 1973. However, DDT can be detected in people born after 1973. DDT persists in the environment and it has been suggested that it may be coming in the country in imported food.[2] Additionally, The United Nations' Stockhlom Convention on Persistent Organic Pollutants will allow 25 countries to continue using DDT against malaria-spreading mosquitoes until a viable alternative is found.[3] Oxychlordane is a metabolite of chlordane. Heptachlor is a constituent of chlordane, and heptachlor epoxide is a metabolite of heptachlor.
